Anaheim University is co-organizing the 2010 Green Globe Film Awards, which will be one of Hollywood's largest film award programs with 100 Viewers' Choice Awards being selected by film lovers, critics and movie viewers from around the world. We ask that you take part in the nomination and voting process and select your favorite films, actors and filmmakers by visiting www.movie-voters.com

Remember, you cast the vote; you make the decision!

The Awards will be presented during the March 23rd dinner gala at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel's California Ballroom in Los Angeles. The Bonaventure was selected for its immense size and capacity to host the largest dinner gala of any hotel in the state, as well as its history of being one of the most sought after movie locations for filmmakers endeavoring to present Los Angeles in a modern and elegant setting Film awards will be presented to major motion picture filmmakers and actors, as well as top environmental, humanitarian, independent short films, animated and international films. The Green Globe Film Awards Committee works in cooperation with major film awards programs internationally to implement the awards' annual international theme, with the 2010 international film category theme being 'Asian Films'.

The Anaheim University Akira Kurosawa School of Film is organizing a celebrity Tribute to the late Japanese Filmmaker Akira Kurosawa on the 100th Anniversary of his birth

By attending Hollywood's largest celebration of people, planet and motion pictures which will honor the power film has to inspire environmental awareness, we will be helping to give back. The organizing committee of the Green Globe Film Awards will commit a portion of the proceeds from the dinner gala to emergency humanitarian assistance in Haiti and other countries in immediate crises. Environmental efforts will take place in Haiti and regions near the equator. The following is the pledge of the Green Globe Film Awards Committee:

purifying over 1,000,000 liters of water in places of need
planting over 500,000 trees near the equator
establishing 10 schools in countries of crisis
providing 100 scholarships for sustainable management education

This will be accomplished through cooperation with UNICEF and a number of sustainability-related organizations.

Dr. Shinji Fukukawa Chairman of the Machine Industry Memorial Foundation and Chair of the Anaheim University Executive Advisory Board. Dr. Fukukawa is former First Secretary to Prime Minister Ohira, Vice Minister of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI - now the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry) President of the Dentsu Research Institute, and Executive Advisor to Dentsu Inc. Dr. Fukukawa has also served as a Board Member of The Japan Fund, the U.S. - Japan Foundation, the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development, and the Japan-China 21st Century Committee.

Anaheim University TESOL Faculty Lead The International Research Foundation for English Language Education

Anaheim University TESOL Professor, Dr. Kathleen M. Bailey, has been elected as Chair of the Board of Trustees of TIRF (The International Research Foundation for English Language Education), and President of the Foundation. Dr. David Nunan, Dean of the Anaheim University Graduate School of Education, has been elected as a member of the Foundation's Executive Committee.

TIRF is a charitable foundation that raises money for research, solicits and vets proposals, and disseminates the findings. The current focus of the foundation is on creating and disseminating research evidence on the international role of English, to support best practices in the development of English language skills in our 21st century global society. Professor David Nunan who also serves as Vice-President for Academic Affairs at Anaheim University is a world-renowned linguist and best-selling author of English Language Teaching textbooks for Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, and Cengage Learning. His ELT textbook series "Go For It" is the largest selling textbook series in the world with total sales exceeding 700 million. In 2000, David Nunan served as President of TESOL, the world's largest language teaching association, and was the first person to serve as President from outside North America. David Nunan has been involved in the teaching of graduate programs for such prestigious institutions as Columbia University, the University of Hawaii, Monterey Institute for International Studies, University of Hong Kong, and many more. In 2002 Dr. Nunan received a congressional citation from the United States House of Representatives for his services to English language education through his pioneering work in online education at Anaheim University. In 2003 he was ranked the 7th most influential Australian in Asia by Business Review Weekly, and in 2005 he was named one of the top "50 Australians who Matter". David Nunan was invited by the Australian Prime Minister to attend a summit in Sydney Australia in December 1996 as one of the Leading 100 Global Australians.

Professor Kathleen Bailey was President of the international TESOL organization in 1998 and served as a member of the worldwide USIA English Teaching Advisory Panel from 1992-95. She was a member of the editorial board of TESOL Quarterly and Prospect, the Australian journal of applied linguistics. A renowned linguist and author for such publishers as Cambridge University Press, her articles have appeared in TESOL Quarterly, TESOL Newsletter, Language Learning, and various anthologies. Dr. Bailey was the recipient of the 1985 and 2007 Allen Griffin Award for Outstanding Higher Education Teacher of the Monterey Peninsula and the 2007 Alatis Award, the most prestigious Award offered by TESOL.

IMPORTANT TECHNICAL INFORMATION

To all AU Students, Staff and Faculty;

Many of you have noticed within the last few months that there has been a timing out issue with AU Online, where the system basically closes your window and does not allow you back in. The tech team for Moodle (the system that runs AU Online) asks that you not go through a third party proxy, such as AOL. Make sure you are typing the url (web address) directly into your browser’s address bar. Accessing Moodle through AOL or other third parties often causes a problem with the Moodle coding. Some company or school networks can also present a similar problem, depending on what firewalls are in place. A way to test this is to access AU Online when you are not part of a network, such as when you are at home.

In general, the Moodle system is not designed to have a session open for hours at a time while typing. As a precaution, it would be good practice if you are posting a lengthy response to a discussion forum or exam to first type it out in a word processing doc such as Microsoft Word, then copy and paste it into the Moodle window. This way you will not lose your work should the internet window close unexpectedly (of course, you should also do frequent saves in your Word doc as a precaution as well!).

You should already be aware that Moodle advises using Firefox as your internet browser to access the AU Online System. That said, it is also possible that the recent upgrades installed by Firefox are somehow interfering with the coding of Moodle. The Moodle tech team is also investigating this, but cannot confirm any information yet. If you are in Firefox and are timed out, opening AU Online in Internet Explorer or Safari seems to be a good work-around for the situation.
