      Course Description

Entrepreneurial Management is a course which provides a comprehensive and practical analysis of the responsibilities of the entrepreneurial team leading an entrepreneurial venture. It begins by recognizing that there are three ways to launch an entrepreneurial venture; one can buy an existing business or one can purchase a franchise; as alternatives to beginning the venture from scratch.  This course explores the factors and issues involved in the three methods and helps students to see how a decision is made as to the most beneficial approach for a given venture.  The course continues with concepts and processes involved in guiding an entrepreneurial venture through the growth period.  Venture growth involves articulating, integrating and achieving economic success and growth through leadership and management skills.  First, the entrepreneurial team leading the venture must attract and retain a competent and dedicated workforce. Secondly, the team must identify and maintain proper inventory levels and evaluate and control receivables.  Teams leading manufacturing ventures must control and direct production effectively. All teams must manage the financial affairs of the venture, understand and control the risks to which the venture is exposed, and develop and implement fraud prevention and control strategies.  Entrepreneurial teams must employ the Internet effectively as a supplement to operations, or as the primary operational mode, and teams must understand how to market and sell in international markets. Entrepreneurial Management is a holistic approach to leading an entrepreneurial venture from its inception through its successful establishment and into significant growth and expansion beyond the mezzanine level.
