Thank you for bringing up the point about autonomous learning. It's important for our students to develop a sense of control over their learning, as well as develop their own ideas about how to learn and how to apply these learning strategies to language learning.

Your response supports Fedderholdt’s statement that “the language learner who is capable of using a wide variety of language learning strategies appropriately can improve his language skills in a better and more effective way". Thus, strategies help learners build up their independence and autonomy, an aspect which consequently grants them a greater deal of control of their own learning.. This really reminds us that it is not only about what students learn, but how they go about learning and becoming more autonomous learners.

Strategies are very important for the teaching and learning process because they provide the students with the means to continue learning on their own. Teachers cannot teach the students everything they need to know about the language, so they need to explicitly introduce learning strategies and raise the students awareness about their preferred learning styles. By doing that, teachers provide the students with lifelong skills to help them to efficiently continue learning the language.
